Days that Changed the World

We were delighted that the Ampleforth Community Children's Choir joined us for our May concert, and the programme was an eclectic mix of some of the choirs' favourite music, from Thomas Tallis to Lily Allen! Also contributing were soloists Ben Messenger, who played Bruch's moving Kol Nidrei on the cello, and Reuben Lally, who performed Where is Love? from Oliver!

The highlight of the evening was a joint performance of Bob Chilcott's Five Days that Changed the World. Composed in 2013 and setting a newly written text by Charles Bennett, this exciting fifteen-minute choral work for children's choir, adult choir, piano and timpani, takes the audience on a journey through five historical events: the invention of printing, the abolition of slavery, the first powered flight, the discovery of penicillin, and the first man in space. The choir and audience hugely enjoyed the performance, and we hope to revisit the work at some point in the future.
